Why HJTri?
I’ve been there. As a coach and as a professional athlete. When you tell me it hurts, I know, because I’ve done it. When you tell me how much it means to achieve your goals, I know because I’ve been there. And that’s why I coach. No BS, no fluffy ducks just someone who knows the ropes and gets kicks out of seeing others enjoy the challenge and results as much as she did.
Why do you not have different priced training packages like most triathlon coaches?
Because I don’t want different coaching packages.
If I coach you, you have access to me whenever you want*. I don’t believe in tiered coaching where the more money you pay the more contact you are entitled to have with your coach. You pay for my expertise. You pay me to support and advise you which involves adapting programmes as needed, not when your direct debit tells you is acceptable.
*Note: I will get fed up if you call me every day asking what colour socks you should wear
Is coaching for me?
I don’t know…is coaching for you? This is something you need to think about.
If you want knowledge, structure and sessions to work on improving your performance then yes coaching is for you. The benefits of working with someone who has experience as an athlete and a coach is second to non. If you want to work hard and focus on achieving your goals under the eye of someone who is real, understands the demands of life outside of sports and what it takes to improve athletic performance then yes, coaching is for you.
If you like the idea of having a coach because all of your friends have one but you aren’t willing to put in the time and effort, then I’d say coaching isn’t for you. Save yourself the money. Enlisting the help of a coach wont automatically improve your performance, you still have to put the work in and hold yourself accountable for your own training.
It sounds a bit scary…
No way! I’m not a scary person at all. In fact I’m about as high off the ground as a hobbit 🙂 Coaching is for anyone who wants to improve, whatever the level. I do not judge and no goal is too little, whether that be training for your first triathlon, podiuming at Worlds, scaling the mountains on that five day ultra marathon or running your local 5km so you can have that extra beer without the guilt trip.
I’m a beginner, am I good enough to have coaching?
Absolutely. Coaching is for anyone wanting to put the time and effort in to improve. Everybody starts as a beginner…unfortunately there’s no skipping this part! I’ve worked with complete beginners to those competing at the top of their Age Group so have extensive experience structuring programmes for all abilities.
I’m an elite athlete, is coaching for me?
Absolutely. Coaching is for anyone wanting to put the time and effort in to improve. I have raced elite, I know how the sport works and the dedication it takes to reach the top of your game. I also know how important it is to have someone else oversee your programme to ease the pressure and allow you to just train.
What if I don’t like it?
There are no sign-up fees, no long term commitments and no contracts. If you decide coaching isn’t for you, you can stop at any time. I just ask that you let me know before the end of the month so I don’t spend time structuring the next month’s training.
What do you do when you’re not coaching?
I can usually be found running up and down mountains, pretending to snowboard or drinking wine.
